[WT-support] Win-test qso recording

What version of K3S firmware were you using? There was a problem with no
TX MONITOR to LINE OUT, which was fixed in MCU 5.51.

"The audio from the K3S is going to the LINE IN ..."

How?

Did you connect the other end of the stereo (?) patch cable to the K3 LINE
OUT jack or to some other jack? Are you using an audio isolation
transformer between the K3 and the PC? If so, remove it; it's not needed
with K3 since it has a built-in audio isolation transformer.

Did you try using the K3 menu CONFIG:LIN OUT to increase the output level
from the default 010? Or does it say =Phones (toggles from NOR to =Phones
if you tap [1]).

Did you use the Windows sound controls to select LINE IN as the recording
device for that sound card, or is it still set to the default (MIC)?

On Windows XP:

   1. *Right click* on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the
Windows task bar (aka. the Windows System Tray). If you can't find the
speaker icon, follow the instructions here
   <http://ask-leo.com/the_volume_indicator_has_disappeared_from_my_system_tray_how_do_i_get_it_back.html>
to
   make it visible there.
   2. In the pop-up window, left click on *Open Volume Control*
   3. Click *Options*
   4. If not enabled, click *Advanced Controls* to enable it
   5. (Click *Options* again if necessary) then *Properties*
   6. From the drop-down list, select the sound card you want to use, the
one with the LINE IN jack connected to the K3 LINE OUT
   7. Click *Recording*
   8. Check all the boxes under "Show the following volume controls."
   9. Click *OK*
   10. Sliders will appear. Under LINE IN, at the bottom of the slider,
make sure the little checkbox is selected
   11. Adjust recording volume using the LINE IN slider
   12. In Win-Test, type MP3SETUP [Enter]
   13. Make sure the same sound card is selected as the recording device

Note that you won't be able to access all the volume controls listed above
if you connect to your Windows XP computer using Windows Remote Desktop.
Instead, sign in locally.

Another option, if you are connecting your PC to the K3S via a USB cable,
is to select the USB Audio CODEC. This is the USB sound card built in to
the K3S. As a pure digital connection, audio quality should be better than
using the analog cables, but that USB sound card goes away when you power
off the K3, which can make Windows and Win-Test select some other sound
card as the default, so things can get mixed up.

And yes, both TX and RX audio will be recorded, though TX audio is usually
recorded at a much lower level. Again, K3 firmware 5.51 fixed a problem
with TX audio recording.

If you still can't increase any of the recording levels, please send me
screen shots of all the dialogs mentioned above.
