[WT-support] KEYING DELAY

Hi Bob,
I'm not now at ED1R so I have not here the setup used, but the delay was
enough long as the first "dit" of our callsign was not "on-air". So pressing
"F4" the first letter ("E") was not TX'ed. Adding in "F4" a "space" could
solve in most cases, but not in all.
We use for CW the "Winkey". We tried several options for PTT Inputs and
Outputs. I have not here all options used, but I can confirm that most
options were tested.
PA PTT Tail, LNA PTT Tail, PTT Lead and PTT Tail was as default: 10, 20, 20
and 200ms, in any way, I changed and no solved.
Bob we tried most options and we also copied from another computer that
worked OK, all options and setups. Also we changed the microHAM between 2
stations....
Surely we did something wrong but I don't know.
And its true that all 5 computers are similar and this problem affected only
to our MULTI station. The cluster access was done from 2 different
computers, one to VE7CC and the second to my Home Skimmer. Maybe sometimes a
too heavy traffic on our LAN could cause some delay (few miliseconds) to
some computer, but it was not a important issue. Our problem was only at
that Multi station.
We also reboot the computer 2 times, and it didn't help... ;)

Was it a consistent delay, or variable? How long was the delay? What was
the PTT Lead time set to in the WinKey (WKSETUP) dialog? Were you using
WinKey PTT or any other type of PTT port? Was the "PA PTT" box checked and
was "PA PTT lead" set to some value other than 0 in the PTT tab? You really
need to send me a screen shot of every Win-Test dialog and every Router tab
on the problem computer before I can do much more.
There at at least 3 different places where PTT lead time can be set in
Win-Test and the Router.
If it works for a while, then the delay shows up, sometimes I've had to type
SETUP [Enter] [Enter] in Win-Test to reopen all COM ports, including the
WinKey. Did you try that?
Any leading blanks in CW messages programmed by mistake?

In ED1R we also noticed the same problem but only in one of our
computers.
Our entry was M/2 and we used 5 computers (2 x RUN + 2 x INBAND +
MULTI).
All the computers are similar (same Dell desktop computer) and we
used
microHAM microKeyer II. The problem was detected ONLY in the "MULTI"
Station, the rest of computers (4) worked without delay in the CW
starting.
We checked all possible options (MicroHam Router and WT) but it
didn't help
to fix it. We also entered the same setup of another computer
(without
delay) into this Multi station and it didn't work.
After a lot of time spent in this issue, we couldn't solve. After a
lot of
years running WT and microham, I think I do not consider myself a
newbie is
these settings.
We thought that the problem was due to this computer (some strange
case),
but now after reading your email, you describe the same problem we
found in
this station.

In CQWW CW this weekend at G5W we were using new computers, which
did not
have LPT ports (:-(
So we had to use USB control of Microham and EZMaster on the two
stations.
We experienced random delay in the CW starting when pressing a
function key.
As far as I can see, everything is properly installed. Is this a
known
problem with USB control of Microham and EZM (yes I know that is an
old
product) and if so, what is the fix. This never happened with LPT
keying.
I did wonder whether it was the load of running TelNet with high
spot volume
that was causing the problem, but the computers are fast, with lots
of
memory.
Any ideas ?
