If you have Win-Test Version 3 installed in the standard directory
(C:\Program Files\Win-Test), and you wish to install Win-Test Version 4, but
have the option to run either version for a while, here are some tips for
the installation of V4:

   1. When prompted to "Select destination location", DO NOT install
Win-Test 4 in the same folder as Win-Test 3. Install it in "C:\Program
   Files\WT4" or "C:\Program Files\Win-Test 4" or C:\WT4 or some other place
   that you can easily remember.
   2. When prompted to "Select Start Menu Folder", use "Win-Test 4" instead
of "Win-Test" so that you can preserve your old WT3 shortcuts or icons.

After installing Win-Test 4 in a NEW folder, BEFORE YOU REGISTER IT, open a
Windows command prompt (Start, Run, CMD.EXE), and copy/paste the following
DOS commands (it sure would be better if the Win-Test install program would
migrate these files to the new directories for you):

(The following works IF your computer is set up for Windows XP, US English;
perhaps others can supply the equivalents in French, German, etc. Windows
Vista uses C:\ProgramData\Win-Test\):

   1. COPY "C:\Program Files\Win-Test\*.ini" "C:\Documents and Settings\All
   Users\Application Data\Win-Test\cfg\"
   2. COPY "C:\Program Files\Win-Test\*.xdt" "C:\Documents and Settings\All
   Users\Application Data\Win-Test\extras\"
   3. COPY "C:\Program Files\Win-Test\*.scp" "C:\Documents and Settings\All
   Users\Application Data\Win-Test\databases\"
   4. COPY "C:\Program Files\Win-Test\*.dtb" "C:\Documents and Settings\All
   Users\Application Data\Win-Test\databases\"
(When prompted "Overwrite HF.DTB?" "Overwrite VHF.DTB?", reply "N")
   5. COPY "C:\Program Files\Win-Test\*.wtb" "C:\Program Files\WT4\"
(Change WT4 to whatever name you used)
   6. COPY "C:\Program Files\Win-Test\*.xdl" "C:\Program Files\WT4\"
(Change WT4 to whatever name you used)

Now you can start Win-Test and register it with your new V4 registration
code:

   1. In the Win-Test 4 menu, click Help | Register software...
   2. Copy your Computer code to the Windows clipboard (it's the same number
   as V3)
   3. Click the red *Register now* link at the bottom of the dialog box to
open up the Win-Test website in your browser
   4. In your browser, click the Register
Win-Test<http://www.win-test.com/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=1870>link,
left-hand column
   5. Enter your 4-digit Win-Test account number and enter your callsign
   6. Paste your computer code (copied in Step 2)
   7. Press the [Registration key request] button
   8. An email with the registration key will be sent almost immediately to
the email address that you originally used to purchase Win-Test. If you no
longer have access to that email account you'll need to contact F5MZN or
F6FVY directly. There seems to be no way to get a new Win-Test 3
registration key once you purchase Win-Test 4 or get the email about the
   free upgrade to Win-Test 4)
   9. Copy the new Registration Key from the email message to the Windows
   clipboard
   10. Paste it into the Win-Test "Register software" dialog that you opened
   in step 1
   11. Press [OK]

You may want to use different icons to distinguish WT3 from WT4:

   1. Start, All Programs, Win-Test 4
   2. Right click on the Win-Test icon, left-click on Properties
   3. Select the Shortcut tab
   4. Click the [Change Icon] button
   5. Select the 6th icon in the list

Note: internal sound card voicekeyer message files (MSG1.WAV, MSG2.WAV
etc.) seem to go into a new directory now:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Win-Test\ops\default\n6tv\104\

(I don't know what the '104' means or if it is the same for everyone).

The .WAV file is duplicated with different "speeds" now, so instead of
trying to migrate your old .WAV files to WT4 it is just easier to re-record
them with Win-Test 4.
