Well, actually the "Conn" and "Bye" buttons are not used.

You just have to type in a command in the Alt-T window and hit Enter to 
send it to the TNC.

The Alt-O window displays the TNC stream.

If you need to send an ESC character, use the Ctrl-E combination 
instead. It will be transcoded. As you noticed, hitting the ESC key 
close this window (like all "dialog" windows).
