During a contest, it's a nuisance. I'd rather have it programmed
somewhere before the contest. Let me tell you how it is done in TR:
there are two commands that you can set up in the config-file,
AUTO DUPE ENABLE CQ = TRUE|FALSE
AUTO DUPE ENABLE S AND P = TRUE|FALSE

this way you can decide before the contest, will you call dupes when
running, will you send them QSOB4 while in S&P, or will you just work
them all.

I see no reason in re-thinking this strategy during the contest rush.
However, I'd like to be able to change these settings on the fly,
without reloading WT (I don't need it but maybe someone does).

Of course, $CHECKDUPE is a good idea. Personally I think, the more
variables are available to the user, the better. This makes the software
flexible and adaptable to 'non-standard' and future contests.
