[WT-support] Meaning of XDT file?

It's just an extra check to display what was originally in the database, in
case you make an error. For example, if the first time you work J73Z, you
log DRCI instead of DARCI, all the other QSOs with J73Z will prefill the
wrong thing (the first QSO in the log overrides the DTB prefill), and if
you don't notice it, you may lose all those multipliers in the log
checking. But maybe you'll notice DARCI in the Extra Data Window, and
realize you made a mistake when you logged the first QSO.
Or, suppose you work some HQ station that is not in the database, so you
enter the HQ mult manually. The next time you work them, you may notice
that the mult is prefilled, but the Extra Data Window is blank. That's a
clue indicating something should be double-checked. Maybe you logged the
call wrong the first time?

Hi,
I have been following this itu.dtb and iaru2017.xdt discussion closely but
still I don't understand the meaning of the .xdt file. If the itu.dtb will
give the prefill and multiplier check for bandmap why is the .xdt file used?
