On the other hand, PCIe and ExpressCard ports are not supported on
many (most) current laptops.  However, micro2R provides WinKey 2,
mic/soundcard, PTT and headphone switching along with application
controlled band data in a single USB interfaced package.

There are certainly advantages to MK2R+ (sound cards, CAT interfaces,
CAT derived band data, etc.) but micro2R greatly simplifies SO2R for
those with limited or portable stations.
