Thanks for clarification.  Guess I've been misinterpreting it all along.

The number makes more sense if you go to the List view, right click, and
Sort by -> Multiplier type.  In this case 37Z means there are 37 stations
available in zones you haven't worked yet, and you'll see 37 calls listed
near the top.  Log one in a common zone, and the number will drop
considerably, to maybe 20Z.
