[WT-support] win-test in vhf/uhf contests

Erwin,

I strongly dislike the tone and the wording of your mail. Apparently you are not really familiar with the background of the win test endeavour: All the money raised from selling WIN Test is devoted to upgrading FY5KE and to bring FY5KE as one of the major contest stations into the air. This is a much appreciated effort and thouroughly enriches the contest scenario for thousands of hams taking part in contests and being happy to work FY5KE as a multiplier especially on the low bands.

Apart from that the WIN Test Team has an outstanding reputation for fixing bugs overnight; sometimes even in the morning of the day the contest starts. I remeber an instance, when Ben, DL6RAI, reported a bug some years ago, when he was operating out of the Emirates. The bug was fixed within hours!

And as far as Aurora and other semi important things are concerned: WT offers the possibility to make a note. So just mark the qso and fix it afterwards in cabrillo or edi. After all: VHF and up is so slow - not to say boring - over long stretches of time that I really don't get your point. It's a minor issue. And the WT Team has always excelled in setting sound priorities. That's the way, professionals work. A "first come first serve" attitude is a little bit to simple minded when it comes to improve a very well designed and highly complex program....

See you in the DARC-VHF/UHF-Contest early in March and just try to give me one of these lovely 59A reports. I couldn't care less, hi....

  Dear Herve'
  thank you for your statement.
In the program discription you write support of vhf contests so you decided to go also this way.
If you had written there NO support for VHF contest or only support for HF contest than I never had bought the program.
I run different programs and there it doesn't care much what report I type in as it is only a input/output format.
As some write they report bugs and some still waiting 5 years for a update this is a kind of ignorance to the users who buy the software.
Sorry to say it in hard words but this is no service to customers.

    Hello,

As part of the Win-Test crew, and VHFer (and up) contester myself, I agree
that Win-Test does not give an answer to all the features that we could need
    or imagine.

BUT, Win-Test has never been designed for VHF contests. It is basically an
HF contest logger, that has been "adapted" to VHF and up needs. We have never
hidden it, and concentrated our efforts on developping the HF requirements.

BTW, you may think it simple to add things like mixed mode QSOs or "unusual"
reports, such as 59S (but also 59RS), 59A, and why not AS, ot F, or ionoscatter, or
whatever new propagation mode could be used or discovered. But as those unusual
mixed_mode/reports never appear in the HF contests, making them "recognized" by
Win-Test requires a complete modification of the basic user logging interface. This could
create side effects problems, which is against one goal of our global policy : reliability !

Thus, I am afraid nothing will be done soon.

    Hervé F5HRY

      Hello Jan,

we (OK5Z) used the WT for for V/U/SHF/uW contest one time. Even I like
this software for HF contesting, we refused to use the WT on VHF.

There is absolutely no support and the will to improve the WT for VHF and
      up contesting.
I have reported the bugs, but still nothing. As you mentioned, the problem
with the report, next the problem with the output to EDI format, old VHF
      database and more.

There is a lot of another free of charge SW for VHF and up.

      Best 73! Karel OK2ZI/OK5Z

        Hi guys,

after using Win-test on shortwave I wanted to give it a try on VHF/UHF as
well where we used a different SW up to now. I stumbled upon several
topics that I cannot find help for in the documentation, maybe someone on
        this list knows?

-WT rejects Aurora or Rain Scatter reports. Is there any way to make this
work? Rain Scatter reports are mandatory for serious microwave efforts
accounting for up to 80% of all qso's in a summer contest on 10ghz. and
even aurora may come back in a contest some day.

        - in a mixed mode SO2R setup (e.g. Radio1 2m, Radio2 70cm), I want to
work e.g. SSB on 2m and CW on 70cm. However when Radio 1 is in SSB mode
and Radio2 is also, I cannot change Radio2 to CW mode. I first need to
change radio1 to CW and then I can change it also for radio2. When I do
that Win-test however changes also the band for radio2 so that it is the
same band as radio1. I then can change the band for radio2 and everything
is set up as I want it to be but this sounds like way to complex in the
        hectics of an actual contest.

        73s,

        Jan DL3JAN
