Hi Rick

Also sorry to hear about your misfortune - a pain in the butt so close to
THE contest !

I too would suggest making your upgrade too. You may remember we spoke
recently about our op to S79K ? Well, some of our ops had already made the
upgrade to V4; others didn't, but we all upgraded before the event. We
obviously made sure then that each PC had the same version, usual
precautions.. We had 4 PC's with us; 3 were hooked up at any time; and we
had NO PC Hassles. Was a very smooth transition. OK, there are a couple of
new features, but everything is where you would expect it to be.

Of course, CW operation is a little more intensive. I need to test mine
this weekend with my Win 7 PC; but I have every reason to believe that
WinTest will be unaffected.

See you on from MD6V (SOSB 20m); and my friend will be MD4K (SOSB 15m) !

Sorry to hear about all the lighting damage.

My advice would be to install Version 4 only, on all the new computers, and
never look back to Version 3. Version 3 is no longer supported (no more
fixes being planned).

There were no reports of major issues with V4 during CQ WW Phone or WRTC or
ARRL Sweepstakes. It was released over 16 months ago and is very stable and
reliable. Be sure to update the Country files and Super Check Partial files
and you will be in good shape.

The only difference you will notice at first between V3 and V4 is that there
are now bright yellow sunlight bars at the bottom of the Check Multipliers
window. You can remove those by right clicking on the window and selecting
Display Options.

The other difference is that by default, logs, and country files and
databases are now stored in a new place that is a pain to get to using
Windows, but the new File | Explore menu in Win-Test helps you locate them
easily.

In sum, I can't think of a single reason to install Version 3 if you have to
get brand new computers and reconfigure everything anyway.

Hi All...a couple questions:
1. I had a major lightning strike this summer and lost 9 computers...I
am purchasing some used machines in the next week...can I continue to
use version 3? Will I still be able to get a key for these machines?
2. I Intend to upgrade to version 4 after CQWW CW...but if I am unable
to use version 3 with my 6 new to the station machines then will I be
able to install version 4 on 11 or 12 computers very easily?
3. I have seen some users report problems getting keys to their
version 4....I am kinda up against the wall here and not sure which
way to proceed

73 and thanks de Rick
