The Stew Perry Top Band Distance Challenge is this weekend. Due to some
longstanding bugs, you still have to do special things to make Win-Test 4.7
(or prior) work well in this contest.
Task #184 <http://flyspray.win-test.com/index.php?do=details&id=184> (opened
3 years ago) explains that Win-Test will never use MASTER.SCP or DEFAULT.SCP
as a super-check partial file in this contest. The work-around is to COPY
MASTER.SCP to STEW_PERRY.SCP (note the *underscore* in the name).
Task #226 <http://flyspray.win-test.com/index.php?do=details&id=226> (opened
2 years ago) explains that Win-Test will refuse to use STEW-PERRY.DTB (note
the *hyphen* in the name) for exchange guessing (pre-fill of grid square).
The work-around is to RENAME HF.DTB to HF.DTB.SAV, and then restart
Win-Test. Then exchange guessing will work with STEW-PERRY.DTB (this tip
from W9ZRX).
All of these files are in the Databases directory (File | Explore |
/databases directory). You can download a 1-year old version of
STEW-PERRY.DTB here <http://download.win-test.com/databases/STEW-PERRY.DTB>.
Be sure to tell Windows to display *full* file names so you can see what you
are doing. By default, Windows *hides* the ".scp" or ".dtb" filename
extensions.
The step-by-step procedure to make Windows Explorer display full and
complete file names is published in the Wiki,
here<http://docs.win-test.com/wiki/Check_Partial_and_Np1_Files#Location>,
for both Windows XP and Windows Vista/Windows 7.
After the contest, you have to remember to rename HF.DTB.SAV back to HF.DTB
or else Win-Test will display an error message "Can't open HF.DTB!" at
start-up.
Thanks to KL7RA for reminding me about these issues.
73,
Bob, N6TV
