[WT-support] 746 Pro Still Won't Send To WT

I set up a remote session (VNC) with Neil but was unsuccessful after trying
many combinations.
Jens-Uwe, can you please explain what you mean by a "Splitter from the real
prolific port to a virtual"?
Neil is using a Prolific USB-to-Serial device with an old device driver
"Version 3.0.1.0" dated 2007, under Windows Vista 64.
In Win-Test we had to change DTR to "Always ON" to supply voltage to the
non-standard level converter he is using (not a genuine Icom CT-17).
Entering a frequency works and always moves the IC-746 Pro OK, but
Alt-F1/Alt-F2 do NOT work (Win-Test changes, but the rig stays put), and
Win-Test never tracks movements of the VFO A knob, both when using CI-V
Transceive and not using CI-V Transceive.
So I believe the problem is either in his level converter or his
USB-to-Serial adapter.
I went to the Eterlogic site but I'm not sure what I'm a supposed to find
there. Why install VSPE when his virtual COM ports are visible to Windows
Vista 64 OK already, under Control Panel, Ports?
I went to the Prolific site, but could not figure out which Vista 64 driver
is the one to use for his USB-to-Serial converter.
Neil has two of those converters, one comes up as COM3, and one as COM4, and
there are no "real" COM1 or COM2 ports listed. The one on COM3 we set up as
PTT on DTR/RTS and it worked fine with Win-Test. The one on COM4 was
connected to the IC-746Pro and it only works in a very limited way with
Win-Test and his IC-746 Pro.
He is going to try the same hardware with Windows XP to see if the problem
is unique to Vista 64. We set up Win-Test to run "As Administrator" in
"Windows XP Service Pack 2" compatibility mode, but it didn't help.
