Larry, yes, it occurred to me, too, that Sony has a "printer-only" parallel
port.
The Sony is a Vaio PCG-V505E Series 2/2, version G245.0 (on the recovery
DVD).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe Sony developed a printer-only (so-called) parallel port ?! And it
can't be used in another way (like the USB to // adapter I mentioned in
my previous post).
As Bob N6TV suggested, could you please indicate the complete model
reference of your Sony laptop please ?
