For those like me wondering why static IP is being recommended over DHCP,
which is a lot easier to implement, I found this in the reflector archives:

In sum, you can use DHCP if you know what you're doing and set the broadcast
address correctly, but for debugging purposes, it can be easier if you know
the fixed IP address of each machine in advance.
