[WT-support] Problem with zone guessing in 3.16

right Tom, the zone thing is a bit strange and some take it very seriously to copy the correct one and don't log the QSO if they are not sure, some don't pay attention at all. After all, I guess that as the log is rescored with correct CTY.DAT and zones then even multiplier zone is not important, I am not sure though.
But 59 is as redundant as zone then and you can drop this too. I guess it is just what the rules of the contest say about what the exchange is. If the rules oblige you to certain exhange then this is what you have to give out. The same with e.g. EU Sprint where you have to give both calls in exchange. So in CQWW that is how it is - you have to give your exchange but you are not obliged to copy it as it is known in most cases and not even checked at all most likely. No reason to hide the head in the sand and pretend otherwise.
btw, I look forward to the times to able to work thousands of K's. I could even write down all their zones for that even:)) Had less than 500 on all bands together this weekend;(

Hi
Yes I fully understand all that I operated GM2T during the
Contest and made 5,500 QSOs, so yes I too am a Contester.
So if the exchange is not checked and is deemed not
important, why bother with it at all and just say ES5TV 59
- ES5TV also 59 QRZ GM2T ????
Save everybody a whole lot of trouble..
Do you loose points for not having the correct zone? Yes
if it a multiplier, but I think the question here is between
Zone 4 and 5. We work thousands of them - so what is the
point if the zone is not checked. The americans can move
house and not change thrir callsign so who is to say the CTY
file is correct? If you dont loose points, it doesn't
matter..... no?

But every contest has its rules and when the exchange is easily guessable it would be stupid not to have the computer refill the field, the same was as it would be stupid not to use voice keyer for serious SO operation. One could claim it is not fair and ethical as well:)

It makes you ask if the headache, hallucianations and loss of voice is really worth it. Try it once and you will see how important ergonimics and efficiency of operating gets.

What happened here was a unexpected program flaw and due to having no time to reconfigure the program/change version the mistakes were inevitable as whenever you started coping/entering the callsign not from the very first letter it entered and fixed wrong exchange. It means you got the info right and naturally it is impossible for someone not completely ignorant about those things think that GM is in zone 27 but that is what the program logged if I got 4FDM first and then added GM to it later.
