This is what I got at 6h44 localtime this morning (where most EU and NA 
are still sleeping) from the SMTP server 'interbridge.net':

olecam at clipperton:~$ telnet callisto.interbridge.net 25

421 Too many concurrent SMTP connections; please try again later.
Connection closed by foreign host.

That is probably the reason you got the messages with delay, Bob. The 
'nerim' smtp server (which acts a mail relay for the mailing list) is 
probably faced to the same problem.
