[WT-support] qso recording and SW quality

Tonno et al,
I agree with you that adding a voice recorder in WT would simplify your post-contest fun, but I would like to emphasize that while it doesn't directly lead to improvements to your score it still creates risks.
In my opinion the extremely fast and interactive (which is very welcome!) development of WT creates a situiation where there is less and less time for regression testing or verification of the already existing functionality. This creates a major risk to the SW itself in terms of stability and reliability. See the recent posts... they are mainly about CAT on legacy equipment and Telnet client troubleshooting... and these are the core functions of a contesting SW IMO.
In brief what I wanted like to ask to be very considerate with requesting non-core functions as they can create a threat to your own score at the end of the day.

well, it is really nice to be able to send out rare contest
QSOs later to friends or correspondents as files and to retain them in the
collection.
I think incoporating recording in WT would be a terrific
function and I look forward to it. Would be able to get audio clips with QSOs
much more easily than from RecAll for example..

IMHO this is unnecessary. There are
enough perfectly suitable tools available optimized for this purpose. I would
opt for WT sticking to its core role and having a very robust and optimized code
instead of having a miriad of bells and whistles used by a subset of the users,
making the code less robust, increasing the probability of fault introduction
and making troubleshooting more difficult.

ps: One
of the best ops ever, W4AN used to say the contest ends at 23:59... He won WWCW
in USA from GA with this principle... So why record a contest anyway ? :)
