BTW, automatically starting a F-key when the footswitch is released will 
result in a short PTT OFF, which will be very annoying.

IMO the best way would be to let both PTT working independently. That 
way, you could send any message with the F-keys even if the PTT 
footswitch is down (and you will be able to release it during in the 
middle of the transmitted message). I have already asked this to 
Fabio... Now I'm not the only one, so maybe?
