Hello Laurant, Hello Contest friends,

trying to set up our club station for the IARU - Reg 1 - SSB - Fieldday
which will be on during the forthcoming weekend.

Here is, what I would like to do:

(A) Send the F-key messages (i.e. F1=CQ) by just pressing the F-key; the
headset-microphone to be muted

(B) Send the Audio from the Headset only if the footswitch is pressed.

Here is what happens:

(1) The footswitch puts the TS-480 into transmit-mode as it should, but
no understandable Audio, just noise and occasional, rhythmic bursts of hum.
My assumption is that this is a problem of the microHAM cable set for
the TS-480 , but that is hard to believe, since Jozef has always had
excellent quality. This happens irrespective of whether the VOX is
switched on or off on the TS-480.

(2) With the VOX on the TS-480 activated I can modulate the TS-480 with
the headset without any problem time and again without pressing the
footswich. If I press the footswitch then there is only the above
mentioned noise and the occasional bursts of hum to be heard on a remote RX.

(3) If I press the F1-key the F1-message will be transmitted without any
problem and as often as I press the F1 key.

(4) Having pressed the F1 key once, I cannot get the TS-480 to cooperate
with my headset microphone. This has to do with the fact that obviously
WIN TEST automatically activates (or rather forgets to deactivate) the
"TON AUS" (= No tone or no microphone) tag in the TX-Mixer of the Audio
mixer. This must be a WIN TEST problem and I assume that the cause is
the very same problem which causes the erratic speed problem in CW.
Something is not properly reset by WIN TEST.

So, my questions to microHAM and WIN TEST are

(I) Why does the footswitch "short circuit" the audio and cause the hum
and what can I do to avoid that?

(II) What do I need to do in order to transmit audio from my headset
only if the footswitch is pressed?

(III) What can I do to prevent WIN TEST from muting my microfon once a
F-key has been pressed?

Here is my system:
