Are you using an Prolific USB-to-Serial adapter between the PC and the
IC-7800 serial port? Check the Windows Device Manager, under PORTS
(Properties). If it displays "Prolific," it probably won't work at all.
Discard it and replace it with an FTDI USB-to-Serial adapter or my Serial
Box USB <https://bit.ly/S-BOX> (which has a built-in FTDI adpater plus
keying circuits to support CW and PTT via DTR and RTS, over one USB cable).

Check the IC-7800 menu settings:

*CI-V Address:* *6Ah* (Default value, no other value will work)
*CI-V Baud Rate: 19200* (Do not use AUTO)
*CI-V Transceive: ON*
*CI-V Output (for ANT): OFF*
*RS-232C Function: CI-V*

Win-Test Settings:

COMx: *RADIO1 * *19200,N,8,1*
*DTR = Always OFF, RTS = Always OFF*
*Use CI-V Transceive: Enabled*

For some USB-to-Serial adapters, you may need to try DTR=*Always ON*,
RTS=*Always
ON* to provide power to the adapter.

Finally, disconnect any device, connected to the REMOTE jack on the back of
the IC-7800.

Bob, N6TV
