Try using the default port 9871 on both computers, not 2871. Just press the [By Default] button in the SETUP screen on both computers.

If you're already using 9871, double check that error message. Is it 10054 or 10004?

10004 means something that was waiting for network response was cancelled.

Are you connecting the two laptops directly to each other with an Ethernet Crossover cable (special kind of Ethernet cable) or are they connected to a common Ethernet router box?

If you open up a Windows command prompt on one computer and try pinging the other computer, does it work?

  Start | Run | cmd.exe
  PING 192.168.0.2

If it says "Request timed out", the Windows network is not set up right. If it works OK, chances are you have a Firewall program running on one or both computers that is blocking port 9871. I will then need to know which Firewall program you are using. It's also possible your router is blocking communications on Port 9871.
