[WT-support] no audio

Steve .... I've experienced the same problem on two Desktop PC that I built.
The motherboards were made by different manufacturers, but both used recent
Realtek Sound Chips - the ALC888 and the ALC889. Win-7 x64 was installed on
both with the Realtek Driver for Win-7 x64.
The problem of application software not "seeing" this Realtek Sound Hardware
is NOT LIMITED to Win-Test. I experienced the same problem trying to run
the MRP40 CW Decoder.
In both cases I simply installed a Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio
Soundcard which I had available. When I did that my personal PC, I noted
that the Realtek Sound Hardware suddenly appeared as a choice in both
Win-Test and MRP40. However I did not try to use the Integrated Realtek
Sound because the Sound Blaster worked and I already had the cables ateached
to the Sound Blaster. So even though it is now "visible" on my PC, I don't
know if it would work.
I suspect that it's something in the Realtek Driver for Win7 x64.
As a workaround for your Laptop you might consider an External USB "Sound
Card". I use a small USB Sound Card with my Lenovo Win-7 x32 Laptop. Most
Laptop sound hardware does not allow the Microphone to be an Input to the
Playback Mixer. This is because the proximity of the Internal Speakers and
Microphone will cause a feedback loop. But if the Microphone can be used as
an input to the playback mixer, then the microphone audio can be routed
through the Sound Card to the Radio for both QSO's, and for Message
recording and playback.
So you may find it desirable to use an external sound card in any event so
long as it supports making the microphone an input to the playback mixer.
Some times there are "Registry Hacks" which will add this capability to a
Laptop, but not always.
