Actually, not really, as the important thing (as usual) being that 
serial number matches on both sides of the Qso, whatever this number 
means or is obtained.

This serial number thing is regularely discussed on this list (and on 
others). The WPX contest director K6AW confirmed they accept a numbering 
per band for all multi-op categories (M/S, M/2 and M/M). And, to be 
honest, it is the easiest way to manage it for everyone !
