HI Juan,
I had the same problem with no serial port on my notebook. I fixed it with a USB-RS232 converter, available in almost every computer shop.
About the second problem, if I understand well, you have to uncheck the "No sound" option, in the Options->CW menù.
Have fun

Subject: [WT-support] CW transmision & monitoring with laptop usb

  Hi there guys

I am Juan EA5BM new wintest user. For now I am playing with this soft and I will test in proper contest.

I have a few problems with this soft that I try to expose: I have installed the registered version of WT into a new laptop running winXP but without serial and paralell ports (db9 and db25), all the conectors are USB :-(((((.

The first problem is how to transmit cw thorugh a usb port. DLPORTIO.SYS and .DLL files have been installed to avoid the "DLPORTIO.SYS device driver not loaded ...." windows mistake message. I have purchased an usb to db25 printer port adaptor, but wintest seems that do not recognize it as LPT

This usb adapter is recognized by winXP in control panel/system/hardware as a Universal Serial Bus controller/ USB printing Suport but not as LPT or emulled LPT.

  ¿What can I do?

The second problem (not sure if consecuence of the first) is that I can not hear de cw transmited running WT. The laptop speaker runs OK in all programs but not in WT. (f.e. pushing F1, the CQ is not heard on laptop, of course in a CW contest)

¿ Any idea about what is happening?

As you can deduce I am not computer techincal.

Any answer and any help will be appreciated. Juan, EA5BM
