sorry for delay but I read your message just few
minutes ago.
In any case I confirm 3.5.0 is OK.
No way to broke it.

Yes, there is a bit of delay, but never stops.

3.6.0 is broken like the 3.8.4

It stops after 2 o 3 attempts.
 Here to me it stops also if I press ESC
after more than 1 sec. and not
only if pressed in a short time.

So for me, just to be on the safe side,
revert to 3.5.0 behaviour.
It's better to have a robust release,
even if a bit non "perfect".
