Thanks to all, which gives their wisdom.
This one is the fundamental answer and I am now receiving and sending. I got
some answers also in German with the same content, but not so fundamental.
The Net ist great. Post please this in the WTwiki. I missed there something
fundamental about this material.

Hello Peter,

I will give you some information, maybe helpful for everyone.
What type on TNC you use, is not so important.

For communication with contest programs like Win-Test or N1MM,
it is a need your TNC must have "The Firmware" operating system.
Some TNC can switch to "KISS" mode. Paxon detected automatically theses
different operating systems,
all works fine, but not with WT.
You can check these in Paxon, what driver is use, or take a simple
terminal program under DOS or WINx,
connect to your TNC and put power on.
After reset TNC, it must be a message appear linke .."The Firmware...Vx.y".
If this doesn't work, you have no chance to connect any station in
contest programs.
Some TNC have soft- or hardware switches to change the OP-system between
"KISS" or "The Firmware" = TF.

When the communication with terminal program works, next step is setup
in Win-Test, COMx and baurate ... to Packet Radio TNC.
Open DX-Cluster monitor window = ALT+O.
After reset TNC or power up, the same message must appear as before in
the terminal program. If it doesn't work, setup or cable are wrong.
If this work, next step open DX-Cluster window = ALT+T.

Now you must now connect to your local node. After reset, TNC is
normally in cannel 0, no connection is possible, only viewing!
To control the TNC, you need control sequences.
TNC control sequences starts always with ESC!
Pressing ESC in DX-Cluster window is not possible, the window will close.

To get a ESC control, you must press CTRL+E followed by the TNC command!
This command isn't anywhere documented.

Alt least, three simple steps to connect:
1. command: ESC+S1 --> change to channel 1 --> message TNC: CHANNEL NOT
CONNECTED
2. command: ESC+C DB0MDX (your local node)
You can follow the connection in the DX-cluster monitor. When connection
is done, you must now connect to your DX-Cluster:
Hear is important, all commands WITHOUT ESC! These are normal inputs in
the DX-cluster window like: C DB0SDF-7 (your DX Cluster).

After connection to your preferred DX-cluster, you can use the buttons
of the DX-CL win for show DX announcements.

To leave the DX cluster, normally bye, after reconnect to your local
node, ESC+D for disconnect from your local node.
Another important commands are:
ESC+I: set your own call to TNC (ESC+I DL8NAS)
ESC+T: set TX delay, normally around 16 (12..20)

I hope it was helpful, have fun in WAEDC CT.

Best 73,
Sigi - DL8NAS
