If your computer has a a serial port available, would it be possible to 
try to connect your transistor interface on it? This will need, of 
course, a different wiring:

- Pin 7 = PTT (RTS)
- Pin 4 = CW Output (DTR)
- Pin 5 = Ground

You can also try to send a tune using ALT+T to see what happens.

My guess is that a different driver (maybe a printer one) is probing the 
LPT port every 5 seconds.
